Heart shaped Puff Pastry Bites

Looking for a Valentine’s Day dessert? Then this easy, 20-minute dessert is perfect for you. Heavenly puff pastry bites that come together incredibly quickly and deliver an irresistible result. I’m sure you’ll impress your partner with these as well.

As the second recipe in the Valentine’s Day dessert series, I’ve brought you this heavenly and very easy dessert. You don’t need any prior practice to make it. You’ll only need two things: two heart-shaped cookie cutters, one larger and one smaller. We’ll use the larger one to cut out the pastry and the smaller one to cut out the center of every second piece, as these will be placed on top of the larger ones to create a border. That’s why it’s important to ensure you cut out an even number of pastry pieces.

The best thing about this dessert is that you can fill it with whatever you like. I used strawberry jam and whipped cream, but you could also fill it with Nutella, pistachio cream, or vanilla custard.

Prep time: 8 MinCook time: 12 MinTotal time: 20 Min

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry, about 250 g
  • 1 egg, for egg wash
  • strawberry jam (or your preferred filling)
  • 150g whipped cream
  • Optional Fillings: Nutella, Pistachio cream, Vanilla custard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200C and line a baking sheet with baking paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and use a large heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out an even number of hearts.
  3. Use a smaller heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the centers of half of the large hearts. These will act as the borders.
  4. Place the full hearts on the prepared baking sheet and spread the strawberry jam over. I used about a teaspoon on each.
  5. Then lay the heart-shaped borders on top of the full hearts and gently press them together.
  6. Brush the top of each pastry with the egg wash.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Let the pastries cool slightly then fill with whipped cream. Alternatively, use Nutella, pistachio cream, or vanilla custard.
  9. Enjoy.
