Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits
These biscuits are made with cheddar and buttermilk. They have a light, flaky texture. Each bite is rich with cheesy flavor. They’re perfect for any meal or snack.
I decided to make these biscuits for the first time a few nights ago as a snack to go with our creamy cauliflower soup. When I made them, I simply eyeballed the ingredients, but they still turned out incredibly delicious. So I figured, why not share them with you all? These biscuits are perfect as a side dish or even just on their own.
Scones and biscuits are similar baked goods, but they have some key differences in ingredients, texture, and how they’re made. Both are made with flour, butter and baking powder, but scones often include eggs and a touch of sugar, while biscuits usually do not. This gives scones a slightly denser, more cake-like texture, while biscuits tend to be flaky. In terms of taste, scones are often sweet, while biscuits are generally savory.
The way they’re shaped also varies. Biscuits are usually rolled out and cut into circles, while scones are commonly shaped into a large round that is then cut into triangles or wedges. This traditional shaping method for scones gives them their characteristic triangular appearance, whereas biscuits are typically round and have a more uniform height.
Ingredients you will need for this recipe
All-purpose flour: Flour is the base of any biscuit, providing structure.
Butter: Cold butter is cut into the flour, forming flaky layers and adding richness as the biscuits bake. Keeping the butter is key, it prevents from melting too early.
Cheddar: You can also use any other cheese you prefer.
Buttermilk: Buttermilk’s slightly tangy taste complements the richness of the butter and the savoriness of the cheddar.
Baking powder: Baking powder is the leavening agent in the recipe, responsible for making the biscuits rise.
Salt: Enhances the flavor of the biscuits.
